The Uncovering Roman Carlisle (URC) team are delighted to let you all know that we have been offered an incredible opportunity from an anonymous international donor - an International Donor of Mystery!
The donor has incredibly offered to match every pound we raise up to £50,000, so if we can raise £50,000 the Uncovering Roman Carlisle project will benefit from £100,000 this year, which will be enough to run a Summer Season on site!
We’ve successfully raised £29,000 so far, from a combination of grant applications, charitable donations and gifts - so we now only need to raise another £21,000 to be able to offer a summer 2025 season!
It’s time for us to be Gladiators, and take this on! With your help we can continue the work we have done so far.
This work has so far supported us to enable 2,185 school aged kids to connect with Carlisle’s incredible Roman Heritage - with your help we can increase that by up to 1,500 kids!
We have offered over 10,000 volunteering spaces at URC so far, and this would allow us to add another 850!
As a reminder our project aims are to:
Increase the numbers of Carlisle residents directly engaging with Carlisle’s heritage.
Deliver community and economic benefit
Improve the wellbeing of participants
Display finds from the excavation utilizing “volunteer voices”
Create activities and attractions for residents and visitors
Assist in economic development of the city
Strengthen partnership working between project partners
Create a project with a legacy
