The 2024 Uncovering Roman Carlisle project is mostly funded by the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund. Part of the Levelling Up agenda.
The Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills. The fund is for enhanced support for existing cultural, historic and heritage institutions that make up the local cultural heritage offer.
The 2023/2024 project is supported by a grant of £95,000 and is is a continuation of previous the community project funded by UKSPF in 2022/2023.
Past Phases of excavation and exhibitions of the site were funded as part of the National Lottery Heritage Funded Uncovering Roman Carlisle Project in 2021 and 2022, and in 2017 when the Roman Bathhouse was first discovered.
